Surface Segregation of Boron in Dispersion - Strengthened Copper

چکیده

The improved yield strength of annealed dispersionstrengthened copper (DSC) over conventional OFE copper makes it a possible candidate for use in extremely high potential gradient particle accelerator structures where stability is of critical importance. Test brazes of such structures show that the surface of DSC is not readily wetted by conventional goldbased braze alloys used for copper. Surface analyses (by XPS and AES) of samples raised to brazing temperature show the presence of boron, which diffuses to the surface and possibly interferes with the wetting process. Boron is an intentional oxygen scavenger added to the DSC during manufacture. Alumina, the primary additive in the strengthening process, is not detected on the surface.

Electrochemical and Tribological Behaviour of Oxide Dispersion Strengthened Duplex Stainless Steel in Mine Water Environment

Abstract This work investigated the electrochemical and aqueous tribological behavior of hot pressed 2205 duplex stainless steel (DSS). DSS sintered composites of different volume percent (% vol) of partially stabilized zirconia (PSZ) was developed using powder metallurgy (PM) technique. Electrochemical behaviour was studied at room temperature, using open circuit potential and potentiody...

Formation of monolayer and few-layer hexagonal boron nitride nanosheets via surface segregation.

We report that few-layer hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) nanosheets can be produced by using a surface segregation method. The formation of h-BN sheets is via an intermediate boron-nitrogen buffer layer. Our results suggest that surface segregation of boron and nitrogen from a solid source is an alternative approach to tailoring synthesis of h-BN sheets for potential applications such as in grap...

A Comparative Study on the Effect of Alkaline-Boron and Lead-Boron Bases on the Dyeing Obtained from Reduction of Selected Dye Metal Compounds by Reduction Method Inside Saggar Box (Especially for Artists)

The world pottery history is replete with different shapes and designs as well as various technical ways of firing and decorating. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of this reducing firing on different color oxides in two alkaline-boron and lead-boron glaze bases. The question raised in this study is that what effects do the different bases of lead-boron and alkali-boron glaze...

A green chemistry approach for facile synthesis of functionalized boron nitride nanosheets

The lack of a high-yield, renewable and low-cost synthesis method limits the potential applications of boron nitride with impressive characterizations. In this study, a facile method is developed for the preparation of chemically functionalized boron nitride nanosheets (BNNSs) by considering the quantity and quality of chemical materials involved in the synthesis process. The proposed green met...

Segregation of Boron to Grain Boundaries in Iron and a Stainless Steel

The effects of boron on the grain boundary and surface energies in iron at 900 and 1000 OC and AISI 316 stainless steel in the temperature range 950-1 250 OC were investigated. It was found that boron reduced these energies in a manner typical of an element with low solubility in the matrix. It has been found that boron improves the grain boundary strength of iron at low temperatures [I] and in...
